Clear Your Calendar, You're Going to Rum Fest This Weekend!

All right, y'all, pop quiz: Where do you think the above picture was taken? Napa, CA? Fredericksburg, TX? Nope. It's right down the street in East Fel!

Perhaps some of our readers who have been around for a while remember the building from its time as Feliciana Cellars, but it's gotten some MAJOR upgrades over the past few years, so we'll forgive you if you didn't recognize it at first.

What used to be parking is now a gorgeous outdoor seating area. The interior has been completely redone and professionally designed. The biggest news though, is that it's now housing a Rum Distillery!

Galvez Tasting Room and Gardens has been quietly open for a few months for events and the occasional in-the-know tasting, but next weekend they're swinging open their doors to the public with their Galvez Rum Inaugural Festival

Entry tickets are $10 and available now on Eventbrite. While tastings are 21+ the event itself is family friendly and will include activities for all ages. Jackson Oaks Eatery is located directly next-door to the venue and will be serving crawfish all day. The event kicks off early with a trail ride through downtown Jackson starting at 9:30 AM. Trail ride tickets include the tail ride, meal voucher, festival entry, and a raffle ticket all for $20.

Of course, the main event at the Rum Festival is the rum tasting! Step inside the luxurious and intimate tasting room and experience the smooth Founders Blend Rum created by Galvez Rum founder and sugar engineer George Schaffer in 1996. Timed tastings start at noon and are designed as 4 variety flights. You'll also be able to order classic mixed rum drinks like daiquiris and few surprises as well. Maybe even a dangerous cherry limeade that tastes basically like the famous Sonic fountain drink but is, in fact, absolutely loaded with rum.

Maybe you're not really a big drinker? Well, the festival has something special in store for history buffs as well. Los Granaderos y Damas De Galvez  will have a table at the event where they'll be teaching attendees all about Galvez and the Spanish history of Louisiana.

If we haven't already enticed you with rum, horses, and history, then how about we throw in a Grammy nominated band? That's right, Dee Fleming and the Zydeco Train will be preforming, along with 3 other fabulous musical artists! They've got everything from Zydeco and Creole to Latin Jazz, Salsa, Cha-Cha-Cha, and Son Cubano.

Basically, what we're saying is that this festival is basically going to be the most exciting festival this side of Baton Rouge. We can't wait to drink rum, listen to music, and learn all about Galvez (the rum, and the man!)

See you there!
