Travel Thursday: Getaway to Greece
Greece is known for its rich history, stunning landscapes, and delicious cuisine, and this adventure did not disappoint. The group was captivated by the unique culture and breathtaking views on each island they visited.
One highlight of the trip was the food. "The food was delicious! We had Gyros at least once a day," Rachael shared. From traditional Greek dishes to mouthwatering street food, the culinary experience in Greece was a treat for the senses.
Each of the islands they explored offered something distinct. In Athens, the birthplace of democracy and Western civilization, the group was immersed in history as they explored the Acropolis and other ancient sites.
Kefalonia, with its pristine beaches and charming villages, provided the backdrop for their friend's enchanting wedding. It was an opportunity to witness the beauty of a Greek wedding, steeped in tradition and surrounded by the stunning Ionian Sea.
Santorini and Mykonos, famous for their stunning sunsets, white-washed buildings, and vibrant nightlife, lived up to their reputation. The group enjoyed the picturesque settings and the energy of these popular destinations.
Rachael offers some valuable advice for future travelers to Greece. She suggests exploring the islands that are not as heavily frequented by tourists. While Santorini and Mykonos are undeniably beautiful, they are big destination islands that draw numerous tourists, including cruise ship visitors.
Rachael also points out that Greece, with its romantic charm, is best suited for couples and adults looking for a romantic getaway. She humorously adds, "We all have 2 toddlers (ours are 2 and 3, and the Falcone babies are 1 and 3) - and I could not imagine taking them on a family vacation there. Those travel days sound miserable with babies!" Greece's romantic allure and vibrant nightlife make it an ideal destination for couples and friends looking to experience the magic of this Mediterranean gem.
