Every weekend, vendors from all across the area come to Hug Your People Park in Zachary to sell goods, socialize, and educate the community about the benefits of buying local. We spoke with many of the vendors and learned a bit about their shops and what motivated them to become artisans.

Here are just a few of the great shops you’ll find every Saturday at the market. There are so many great vendors that it will take a few weeks to highlight them all, so stay tuned next week for more great stands!

Tay’s Bon Ton

 Tayler Falgout has been a merchant at the market for the last four years. She started out selling banana bread, but soon branched out to all sorts of culinary delights. She decorates her stand with seasonal decor and even dresses up to match it. In addition to the baked goods that she sells at the Farmer’s Market, Tayler also creates custom cakes and sells pies and other baked goods for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Moon’s Books and Buildings

Coach Mike “Moon” Mullens never thought he’d be an author, but a promise to his mother forced his hand. She had long told him stories about his aunt’s adventures, and he promised her that one day he would write them down. After his retirement, he decided that the time to write was now. He went on to write two other books, both telling true and interesting stories from people who he knew. Did you know that the sawmill industry was once run by the mafia? To find out more, you’ll have to read his book!

It’s not just books that Moon is selling, though. He also sells “forever bird houses” made of cedar that withstands a lifetime of wear and tear. Bonbon Pottery

As I browsed the stalls at the Farmer’s Market, I was captivated by delicate roses at the BonBon Pottery stand. Instead of more functional pieces that are commonly found in pottery studios, Candace Wilson specializes in artistic works that bring a bit of the beauty of the garden into the home.

Alongside her gorgeous flowers, she had festive fall pumpkin centerpieces and spoon rests in the shape and color of autumn leaves. Red Cypress Art

A trip to Nashville changed the course of Betty Yoes Richardson’s life. She was considering being a live artist but hadn’t quite committed to it yet. A chance meeting with another artist helped to convince her to take the plunge. “Just paint what you know,” he said.

Back home in Louisiana, Betty took that to heart. Her art often features Louisiana motifs such as egrets and cypress trees. She is also working on a series of paintings of young people doing classic Cajun activities like pulling moss and hunting crawfish. In addition to her live painting, she sells prints of her completed artwork. 

Evangeline Goods

The Landreneau family sells gorgeous hand painted oyster shells. With these shells, they make home decor items like blessing beads and beautiful, one of a kind Christmas ornaments. In addition to their oyster shell items, they also sell beaded bracelets and slime homemade by the Landreneau daughters. Finally, at their etsy shop you’ll find some Cajun themed items sure to make you laugh.
