AT & T Workers on Strike for Fair Contract Negotiations
Aug 26, 2024 10:00AM ● By Lauren Pope
If you've noticed the group holding picket signs on the corner of Church Street and 42nd Street all of last week and again this morning, here's the scoop:
Since August 16, 2024, over 17,000 AT&T workers across nine Southeastern states, including 1,500 in Louisiana, have gone on strike. These workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), are pushing for fair contract negotiations. The union accuses AT&T of bad-faith bargaining, alleging that company representatives lacked the authority to make decisions at the negotiation table. The strike includes a range of employees, such as technicians and customer service reps, and is not expected to disrupt services. However, the workers' demands center on fair wages and improved working conditions. AT&T, for its part, denies the accusations and remains in talks with the union.
Picketers declined to comment.
