Starting October 1, 2024, East Baton Rouge Parish Library patrons will have an exciting new way to discover Louisiana's rich natural heritage and history - for free! The library is participating in the "Check Out Louisiana State Parks" pilot program, allowing cardholders to borrow a state park pass and an adventure-ready backpack.

With your library card, you can check out a Geaux Explore backpack containing:

  • A free one-day entry pass to any Louisiana state park or historic site
  • Binoculars, compass, and magnifying glass
  • Guidebooks for Louisiana birds, wildlife, trees, and wildflowers
  • "Leave No Trace" outdoor ethics cards

This program opens up a world of possibilities for nature enthusiasts, families, and anyone looking to explore the state's diverse landscapes and historical sites. Whether you want to hike through lush forests, observe wildlife in wetlands, or step back in time at a historic site, your library card is now your ticket to adventure.

To take advantage of this opportunity:

  1. Choose your destination from Louisiana's state parks and historic sites
  2. Check out a pass and backpack from the East Baton Rouge Parish Library
  3. Present the pass at the park entrance for free admission
  4. Enjoy your visit, using the backpack's tools to enhance your experience
  5. Share your adventure on social media with #CheckOutLouisiana

Remember, the pass covers one vehicle and its passengers but doesn't include access to cabins, campgrounds, or special programs. It's valid for day use only.
