On Friday, October 25th, the City of Zachary hosted the Annual Mayor's Community Prayer Luncheon. With this year's theme of "Faith and Service," the luncheon brought together community leaders, residents, and students in a spirit of unity and gratitude. Attendees were welcomed by the soulful sounds of the Zachary High School Jazz Band, directed by Donny Alexander, setting an upbeat tone for the afternoon.
The engaging Master of Ceremonies, Mr. William "Billy" Kline, brought his signature charm, adding a special touch as he introduced each part of the program. Dr. Eddie Wren, Pastor of First Baptist Church, opened with a heartfelt Invocation, inviting everyone to center themselves in prayer. The Zachary High School JROTC, directed by Sgt. Arteanis Adams, presented the colors in a moving tribute to the nation, followed by Zachary High student Tyson Kimble leading all in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Cierra Fountain, along with the Zachary High School Choir, performed a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, filling the room with pride and reverence.
Mayor David McDavid then warmly welcomed everyone, highlighting the artistic talents of Northwestern Middle School's Sarah Fannin, who was recognized for her beautiful artwork gracing the front of the program. After presenting her with a framed version, he introduced Dr. Eddie Wren, who led the special Prayer for the City, reflecting on the importance of unity and faith within the community.
The First Baptist Church Zachary Praise Team, performing "Goodness of God" and "What He's Done" - selected by Mayor McDavid himself - delivered an emotive musical performance that resonated deeply with the audience. Zachary High student Amelia Dupre then introduced the keynote speaker, Colonel Paul Pride, Retired Superintendent of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Colonel Pride shared his inspiring journey, from hardship to success, emphasizing the role of faith and service in his life and offering a powerful message of hope and resilience.
The afternoon concluded with a Benediction led by Associate Pastor Scott McKenzie, First Baptist Church Zachary, followed by the retiring of colors by the Zachary High School JROTC, closing this memorable event with reverence and respect. This Prayer Luncheon will be remembered as a celebration of faith, service, and community spirit, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
