TSA and OMV to Remind Travelers of Deadline to be REAL ID Ready

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) will hold a press conference on the importance of Louisiana residents becoming REAL ID ready. Beginning May 7, 2025, residents must present a REAL ID or other federally acceptable document to the TSA when flying.

REAL ID Requirements:

  • Look for a star in the upper right corner of your Louisiana driver's license
  • Without a REAL ID-compliant license, travelers will need alternative approved identification (such as a passport)
  • Standard credentials without the star will not be valid for:
    • Boarding flights
    • Accessing secure federal facilities
    • Entering military bases
    • Visiting some federal offices

How to Get a REAL ID:

  1. Visit a Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles field office or Public Tag Agent location
  2. Bring documentation proving:
    • U.S. citizenship
    • Louisiana residency
