Impact of Shopping Local: A Deep Dive

Nov 21, 2024 03:50PM ● By Jen Gennaro

Friendly reminder about Pink Friday tomorrow! But does it really matter? Will my $50 purchase help make or break a small business? Read on, and check out the unhinged "follow the money" graphics.

When you shop or dine in Zachary, your dollars don’t just pay for a product or service—they fuel a cycle of economic growth that benefits the entire community. Every dollar spent locally contributes to creating jobs, supporting businesses, and funding public services, ensuring Zachary remains a thriving place to live and work.

Money spent locally often flows back to the community through dining at Zachary restaurants. In turn, many of those restaurants donate resources back into the community.

And when local businesses are supported by the community, they're more able to help underwrite the events and initiatives that boost our quality of life here in Zachary.

Here's how some of your favorite local businesses make their dollars count in Zachary, in a helpful "follow the money" format. (And, yes, I did spend wayyyy too much time on this.)

Exhibit A:

  • Kelly Desselle of Lee Street Boutique buys chicken feed from Zachary Feed and Seed (where she also sells her eggs), shops for building supplies at Parish Lumber, and enjoys meals at local favorites like Asian Pearl and Brunch Junkie. Her go-to vet for her animals is Plains Veterinary Clinic.
  • Dr. Liz Ezelle, co-owner of Plains Vet, frequents Zachary Pet Supply (obviously), but is also a regular at Agave Blue.
  • Cintia and Jaciel Rodriguez, managers of Agave, say that Sweet Stirrings exceeded their expectations for "pink ninja turtles" cookies for their daughter's birthday party. They also have their daughter enrolled at Molly Myers Dance Academy.
  • Molly Myers Sartin, a mom of two, loves taking her girls to play at Little Town Zachary.
  • Janelle Strahan, owner of Little Town Zachary, says she just visited Lee Street Boutique and Z Market this week and already snagged her teacher gifts! That's full circle and we're here for it.
