A First Look Inside Lane’s New Patient Tower

Earlier this week, we got an exclusive tour of Lane Regional Medical Center’s brand-new four-story patient tower, and trust us—this place is buzzing with progress.
Furniture trucks were pulling in. Hard hats and high-vis vests filled the 90,000-square-foot space. It felt like watching a beehive in motion—coordinated, purposeful, and almost ready to welcome its first patients.
Though it looks like a standalone facility at first glance, the tower is seamlessly connected to the existing hospital. The layout flows effortlessly, designed with both efficiency and patient comfort in mind.
Not that we’re trying to spend time in a hospital... but if we had to, this one wouldn’t be so bad.
🚿 Every Detail Has a Purpose
“This kinda makes me want to go to med school,” I joked as Lane CEO Frank Corcoran demonstrated the automated scrub-in station—a sleek water trough where surgeons can wash up hands-free.
Corcoran’s 30+ years as a critical care nurse give him a deep appreciation for the layout’s efficiency. From the ICU being adjacent to surgery, to the surgical instrument room placed just steps from the OR, every detail supports faster, safer patient care.
The sterilization room—one of the most crucial yet unseen spaces in any hospital—is state-of-the-art, ensuring safety and speed for surgical teams.
Up on the third and fourth floors, 48 spacious, private patient rooms are in their final stages of preparation. As we tour the space, Corcoran points out a key feature: ante rooms—small transitional spaces adjacent to each patient suite where medical staff can suit up in protective gear if extra sterilization is needed.
There’s also a central ante room at the entrance to the patient wing, designed for scalable infection control. “If we ever need to isolate an entire wing—like during a COVID outbreak—we can do it quickly and cleanly,” Corcoran says. “No more rigging up plastic sheeting like we saw in hospitals across the country.”
☕ And Yes—There’s a Coffee Shop
The first-floor lobby will feature a cozy coffee shop serving smoothies, teas, pastries, and more. Whether you’re a visitor, staff member, or patient’s loved one, a little comfort goes a long way.
🧱 Opening Soon
With every room, hallway, and service carefully planned, Lane’s new tower is shaping up to be more than just a hospital addition—it’s a community investment in better care.
Stay tuned—we can’t wait to show you more.
