New Chapter for Historic Magnolia Fields

Local couple brings fresh energy to beloved Zachary wedding venue

When destiny calls, sometimes you have to answer. That's exactly what happened to Christian and KT Mallett when they heard about Magnolia Fields, the historic wedding venue on Virginia Street in Zachary, being available for purchase.

"I like to tell people that God put it in my lap because I really should have never heard about it," KT explains. The opportunity came through a casual conversation at a baby shower, where the former owner Skye was putting out feelers about selling. After touring the century-old property, the young couple knew they had found their calling.

The transition couldn't have been smoother. "Skye and Danny have just been really wonderful to us," KT says. "They've allowed me to jump in feet first and really guide me through the process at the same time."

A Perfect Match

KT brings impressive credentials to Magnolia Fields. As a professional florist and wedding coordinator, she's perfectly positioned to help couples create their dream celebrations. "I tell brides honestly, if there's anything you want me to do for your wedding, it's make the flowers," she says. "I know how to make this place amazing with the flowers."

Her approach is deeply personal. "I'm pretty much like your maid of honor for hire," she explains. "I love that the bride and maid of honor can enjoy the wedding and I'll handle all the nitty gritty. Nothing will go wrong because I won't even let the bride know if something goes wrong."

Both KT and Christian come from entrepreneurial families with deep roots in hospitality and business. "I come from a long line of hostesses," she notes, crediting her mother, aunt, and grandmother for inspiring her natural gift for bringing people together.

Preserving History, Building Community

Located on Virginia Street - one of the few remaining historic streets in Zachary that survived the famous banana fire - Magnolia Fields holds special significance for the community. The Malletts are committed to preserving its character while enhancing its role as a gathering place.

"I will always keep the character of the house. I will always keep the trueness of what it is," KT promises. "I would never bulldoze the place and put a corporate tower on top of it."

Her vision extends beyond weddings to include community events, fundraisers, and an open house this fall where locals can tour the historic property. "I want kids to grow up and be like, 'oh, I remember going there,'" she says. "I want it to be a place where people come and feel like they're in someone's home."

Seasonal Wisdom

Having learned the hard lessons of Louisiana weather, the venue operates with practical wisdom about timing. "I don't do large weddings in July and August," KT states firmly. "You might be prepared for it, but your guests aren't." Instead, those hot summer months are perfect for indoor celebrations like baby showers and corporate events or smaller micro-weddings.

Looking Ahead

Since taking over, the Malletts have already hosted seven or eight weddings plus numerous showers and parties. With bookings extending into 2026, they're excited about their first full year as owners. They're also planning a special New Year's charity event to benefit local families.

The venue has even attracted celebrity attention (ahem), recently hosting the wedding of a well-known couple whose photos showcased the intimate, homey atmosphere that makes Magnolia Fields special.

"But it's not just a place for celebrities," KT explains. "It's intimate, it's a home, it's a place where people come together. That's what we do: intimate, family-oriented, intentional celebrations."

Community Support

The success of Magnolia Fields relies heavily on community support. "Truthfully, it's just us and our Bible study group," KT says gratefully. "I texted our Bible study the night before at like 11 o'clock and four boys showed up the next morning" to help prepare for a wedding.

Her father has been especially instrumental, always ready to help with any project that arises. "Anytime there's something, I say, 'dad, I need you to come out here,' and he's there."

For couples looking for an intimate, historically significant venue where every detail will be lovingly tended, Magnolia Fields offers something truly special under the Malletts' stewardship.
