College Town: Celebrating 100 Years Special Collections welcomes editor Kim Fossey and photographer Kevin P. Duffy to the Main Library at Goodwood on Wednesday, August 20 at 6 p.m. to discuss their book, College Town: LSU's Neighbor Turns 100. The book shares a chronological history of this century-old neighborhood and its unique connection with LSU, including reminiscences from residents past and present, and photographs of homes, lush landscaping, a community park, neighboring lake, and the historic Highland Cemetery.
Back-to-School Refurbished Technology Sale Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC), along with community partners, invite students and their families to a sale of refurbished desktops, laptops, tablets, and hotspots at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday, August 9, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Equip your scholars with all the tools they need for the upcoming school year! Legacy Letter Challenge: Summer of Legacy
Your East Baton Rouge Parish Library has partnered with Legacy Letter to offer all EBRPL cardholders an opportunity to sign up for this summer's Letter Legacy Challenge. What is the Legacy Letter Challenge? You’ll be guided to write a heartfelt Legacy Letter — a personal message to your children, grandchildren, or loved ones — during one of several live, virtual workshops led by Legacy Letter founder, Blake Brewer. It’s a chance to reflect, write, and share the wisdom, love, and life lessons that matter most. These 90-minute livestreams will walk you step-by-step through writing a letter that can impact generations. Upcoming Legacy Letter virtual workshops will be held on Mondays, August 4, 11 & 18 at 2 p.m. and August 25 at 7 p.m. To register or learn more, visit ebrpl.co/legacy. Safe and In Charge Babysitting Class
Be a sitter superstar! The Louisiana Firefighters Foundation will host a babysitting class for students in grades 5-8 at the Jones Creek Regional Branch Library on Saturday, August 30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. “Safe and In Charge” covers life safety, childcare, business skills, basic CPR, and first aid. Discovering the No Name Creek Mastodon in West Feliciana
Journeying through a creek in West Feliciana, Paleontologist Mason Kirkland and Museum Director Dr. James Gregory Jr. discovered an odd tree root structure that, on closer inspection, turned out to be an amazing fossil discovery, the remains of a Mastodon right here in Louisiana! Learn more about this exciting find at the Main Library at Goodwood on Sunday, August 17 at 3 p.m. as Kirkland and Gregory recount the day of their discovery and discuss the field of paleontology. Hope Resuscitated with Leila Ramos
Hope Resuscitated is a non-profit organization that makes free Narcan available to the public. Founder Leila Ramos began Hope Resuscitated after losing a friend to an overdose while in high school. • Tuesday, August 5 at 1 p.m. – Delve into the fascinating world of birds with the Smithsonian’s Dr. Jay Jinsing Falk through astonishing photography and clear explanations in this absorbing global guide, The Bird Book: The Stories, Science, and History of Birds. Birds are dinosaurs with a history going back millions of years. Our fascination with them runs deep in history, and our close association is reflected in creation stories, myths, legends, songs, and children's stories.
