Zachary Forward: Tax Reallocation Proposal on November Ballot

The Zachary Community School District (ZCSD) has placed a proposition on the November 15, 2025 ballot called Zachary Forward, a plan to reallocate existing school bond taxes to meet critical district needs—without raising the current tax rate for residents.

The initiative comes as the district’s original school construction bonds, funded by a 36-mill property tax, near maturity. If approved, the millage rate would remain at a reduced 24 mills and be redirected toward three top priorities identified by stakeholders:

  • Employee Compensation – funding raises and benefits to recruit and retain quality educators, keeping salaries competitive with neighboring districts.

  • Technology – establishing a sustainable funding source for classroom technology, equipment replacements, and predictable upgrade rotations.

  • Facilities Maintenance – addressing necessary repairs and upgrades in school buildings, including roof replacements, HVAC systems, and safety improvements.

The ZCSD School Board voted unanimously to place the measure on the ballot, reflecting strong community support developed through advisory groups and strategic planning.

Importantly, this is not a tax increase but a rededication of funds residents are already paying. By reallocating these dollars, the district aims to invest in teachers, technology, and safe, modern schools for the future.
