If you’ve ever experienced New Orleans Mardi Gras, you’ve seen iconic dance groups like the 610 Stompers, NOLA Cherry Bombs, King Cake Babies, and the Muff-a-Lottas lighting up the parade route with high kicks, big smiles, and even bigger personalities. Now, just in time for Zachary’s inaugural Mardi Gras Parade, the city is welcoming a dance troupe of its very own: the Bella Nottes.

Founded with heart, purpose, and plenty of rhythm, the Bella Nottes were created to bring people together through movement. The group exists to empower women, build lasting friendships, and spread joy one eight count at a time. While rooted in dance, the Bella Nottes are ultimately about connection: showing up for one another, celebrating individuality, and sharing that energy with the community they proudly represent.

The name Bella Nottes is inspired by the Italian phrase bella notte, meaning “beautiful night.” It reflects the spirit of celebration and magic that comes alive when the music starts, the lights glow, and a community gathers.

How the Bella Nottes Came to Be
The Bella Nottes began with a surprise flash dance at a neighborhood New Year’s Eve party in December 2022. What started as a fun one-time performance quickly became something more. The dancers loved the sense of community, the confidence that came from moving together, and the pure joy of sharing that moment with others.

Life briefly put the idea on hold, but when Zachary announced its very first Mardi Gras parade, the timing became undeniable. That moment made it clear: this had to be the Bella Nottes’ debut.

Today, the Bella Nottes are an adult parade dance team focused on inclusivity, fun, and community pride. Whether members bring years of dance experience or simply a willingness to learn, the emphasis is always the same—move together, support one another, and shine.

Meet the Founders
Rebecca Stephenson is a founding leader and the Executive Director of the Bella Nottes. With a passion for building community and creating meaningful experiences, Rebecca brought the vision of the Bella Nottes to life by blending leadership, creativity, and a lifelong love of dance. Her goal has always been simple: to create a space where people feel welcome, confident, and connected on and off the parade route.

Courtney Johnson is a founding member whose energy and commitment helped shape the Bella Nottes from the very beginning. Known for her enthusiasm and heart for teamwork, Courtney plays a key role in fostering the supportive, joyful culture that defines the group.

Marjorie Torres is a founding member and Zachary resident who believes deeply in community and connection. Her passion for service and inclusivity helps ground the Bella Nottes in purpose, ensuring the group reflects the heart of the community it represents.

Ready to Shine
With their debut just around the corner, the Bella Nottes are ready to dance their way into Mardi Gras history, Zachary style led by their dance captain Emily Landry. Community members can catch their first official parade appearance on Sunday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m.

And for those inspired to join the fun: whether you’re an experienced dancer or simply love to move and make friends, it’s not too late to become part of the Bella Nottes. You can complete the interest form to be notified how to join when next season begins.
