LIBRARY MILLAGE CONTINUATION PASSES

Jun 29, 2026 11:26AM ● By Press Release

The Library Millage Continuation Proposition was approved by voters on June 27, ensuring that the East Baton Rouge Parish Library can continue providing the services, resources, and programs the community relies on every day. The millage passed by 64%, with 47,895 “YES” votes out of a total of 74,574 votes cast. This dedicated parish-wide property tax at the 9.5 millage rate secures library funding for the next ten years.

With the millage approved, the Library will be able to restore complete funding for books and materials, continue offering quality programs and services, and fully fund the long-standing Pay-As-You-Go Capital Improvements Plan. This allows the Library to move forward with the planned renovations and improvements at the Central, Zachary, Delmont Gardens, Bluebonnet Regional, and Carver branches, as well as repairs and improvements at the Main Library at Goodwood.  Details are available at www.ebrpl.com/millage.

Library Director Katrina Stokes shared, “On behalf of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, I wish to express our gratitude to our community. We greatly appreciate your approval of our 10-year dedicated millage, as you have every 10 years since 1986. Thank you for providing us with the means to continue keeping the promises we made for the past 40 years.”

Library Board President Candace Temple added, “The Library belongs to the people of East Baton Rouge Parish, and we take seriously our responsibility to be careful stewards of the public's investment. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and serving residents of all ages and backgrounds. Thank you for your trust. We look forward to continuing our mission of enriching lives, strengthening communities, and expanding opportunities for future generations.”

Stokes continued: “We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported the Library! The encouragement, advocacy, and enthusiasm we received from our community meant so much to us. We remain committed to responsibly managing taxpayer dollars and to providing outstanding library services that educate, inspire, and connect our community for years to come!”
