Zachary Launches Pilot Program for Larger Recycling Carts to Combat Overflow

Jun 24, 2024 11:17AM ● By Lauren Pope
Are you sick of being buried under boxes every week? Good news! Waste Management has chosen Zachary to participate in a pilot program for bigger recycling carts.

Councilwoman Ambre DeVirgilio, representing District 3, gave us the scoop.

" Zachary has a high rate of recycling participants compared to other areas so the pilot program is looking at increasing our recycle bin size to the 96 gallon containers. They chose District 3 for the pilot program and it will be a few homes in Lake Pointe to get feedback. I’m pretty excited about it since my household always has more recycling than we do garbage."

These bins are the same size as your normal garbage bins which is great news for those of us whose cardboard output cannot be contained in the tiny little crates that we currently have available. However, it sounds like we've all been trying our hardest to make those little boxes work here in Zachary and all of that boxcutting and smooshing has finally paid off!

Residents of Lake Pointe, don't let us down! Fill up those new bins so that the program can be expanded across Zachary. My garage will thank you.
