Experience movie magic and more at the 12th Annual Baton Rouge Maker Faire! Go back in time at the "Talking About a Revolution" all-day event! Have fun at silly, spooky programs for adults, teens, and kids!
Baton Rouge Maker Faire
Lights, Camera, Make! Join us in celebrating another year of curiosity and creativity at the 12th annual Baton Rouge Maker Faire on Saturday, October 18, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Main Library at Goodwood. This year, we’re rolling out the red carpet to focus on filmmaking, celebrating all the makers who create movie magic behind the scenes! Our headlining event will be a live film score performed by Breadstick Space Opera with Foley sound effects by Clay Achee and company, set to a classic Buster Keaton short film. Come experience this unique screening and other exciting activities such as:

Talking About a Revolution
Join EBRPL and LPB along with community partners Sons of the American Revolution, Louisiana Forestry Commission, and Little Wars at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday, October 25 at 10 a.m. for a full day of events, screenings, and workshops as we highlight LPB’s new, monumental Ken Burns documentary, The American Revolution. Showings of the film will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., followed by a discussion panel of local historians and PBS representatives. Also, enjoy a tea tasting, miniature tabletop gaming experience, period dancing demonstration and more!
Red Stick Rhythms Concert Series
Celebrate incredible music from local musicians at the Main Library at Goodwood this fall! Join us for our Red Stick Rhythms Concert Series in the building across the plaza from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, October 5 with musical artists Teiron and Elli 500, then again on Sunday, October 26 for a creative process lecture with Tilla and Deuce of Gears. Each event will feature two bands, representing various styles and genres. The concert series will continue in November.
Digging Up Bones: Cemeteries in East Baton Rouge Parish
Special Collections welcomes Genealogy Librarian David Laatsch to the Main Library at Goodwood on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. to discuss the forgotten cemeteries of East Baton Rouge Parish. Once an integral part in the lives of families and communities, these burial grounds contain relics of a bygone era that continue to provide valuable information and a link to today's societies. Learn why the past is so important for us to remember and honor, for future generations.
Books and Music: Make a Joyful Noise!
Kids’ Orchestra returns to the Library to offer experiential learning for children ages 3-11. In October,Books & Music celebrates a variety of sounds and colors by exploring two crayon-themed books: Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall and Creepy Crayon! by Aaron Reynolds. Help create spooky sounds and musical surprises during the Halloween season. Learn the Monster Mash dance. Meet professional musicians, sing, laugh, and find the beat of your own drum.

Lethal Ladies: Fierce Females of Louisiana’s Wildlife
They’re formidable and fatal. Intimidating, yet inspiring. And they’re right in our backyard. Join Librarian and Certified Master Naturalist Jessica McDaniel at the Main Library at Goodwood on Tuesday, October 14 at 6:30 p.m. to explore fierce females in Louisiana’s natural environment and their iconic counterparts in the horror and thriller genres. We’ll talk about the impressive behaviors and killer designs of local species, as well as the styles of motherhood which give predators pause. Baker Library Farmers and Artisan Market
Baker Branch Library is excited to announce its new, monthly Farmers and Artisan Market. Trunk or Treat at the Library
Kids are invited to the Greenwell Springs Road Regional Branch Library, rain or shine, for a Trunk or Treat event! Community partners will set up in the parking lot on Monday, October 27 at 4:30 p.m. to hand out seasonal goodies. If it rains, the event will move indoors. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Virtual Author Talk Series
The Library continues its Virtual Author Talk Series with four new authors in October! Each live, virtual event features a different bestselling author, along with an interactive Q&A session where participants can ask questions directly to the author. • Thursday, October 2 at 1 p.m. – Join us in conversation with Smithsonian professionals Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key as they discuss Nuestra América and highlight inspiring stories of Latinos throughout history, as well as their incredible contributions to the cultural, social, and political character of the United States. The Smithsonian Museum has featured twenty-three of these stories in its exhibition ¡Presente! A Latino History of the United States, the first exhibition to feature U.S. Latino history at the national level. Featuring beautifully illustrated portraits by Gloria Félix, this is a book that children (and adults) will learn from again and again. A must have for every school and home library to help students understand the American story!

Garden Discoveries
The Baton Rouge Botanic Garden Foundation will host a FREE Garden Discoveries event, “Monarchs and Milkweed” led by Linda Barber Auld, at the Main Library at Goodwood on Saturday, October 11 at 10 a.m. Affectionately known as the NOLA BugLady, Linda will share her knowledge of monarch migration pathways and information on other insects that visit the milkweed plant. She will also answer questions about the current issues facing monarchs and how you can help them. Linda’s book, BugLady’s Butterfly Summer, will be available for purchase. Movies on the Plaza
Life’s no fun without a good scare! Join us for a spooky good time at the Main Library at Goodwood on Friday, October 24 at 7 p.m. for Movies on the Plaza. Celebrate the season with a family-friendly screening of a Halloween classic about a Pumpkin King that wants to be Santa. Bring your lawn chair or blanket, enjoy some popcorn, and stay for the after-movie dance party.

BRFD Fire Truck Visit
Start off Fire Prevention Month with the Baton Rouge Fire Department! Learn about fire safety and explore a fire truck at the Eden Park Branch Library on Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. While you’re there, view an exhibit of fire gear and equipment from BRFD, the first fire department in the nation to receive a class 1 rating and the only one to retain this rating for over 40 years!

Chef Nino’s Comedy Show and Cooking Demonstration
Humana presents a comedy show and cooking demonstration by Chef Nino at the Jones Creek Regional Branch Library on Friday, October 17 at 10:30 a.m. Learn about nutrition and eating healthy through humorous, inspirational storytelling. Pizza and Pasta Party
What's the best way to celebrate Halloween and Pizza and Pasta Month? Combine them all to have the scariest and tastiest party ever! Teens are invited to the River Center Branch Library on Friday, October 31 at 4:30 p.m. to make pasta and pizza dough from scratch, then garnish their pasta/mini pizza dishes to create a spooky but delicious treat.
